Among the ways people “clean” their butts, wet wipes are always touted as effective. When you mention bidets, people often retort with “Well I use wet wipes. They clean just as well.” But we’re here to tell you, THAT’S A LIE.
According to The Guardian, wet wipes were considered “the biggest villain of 2015.” Over the years, these disposable soapy towelettes have become extremely popular… too popular. There are several big problems behind this widespread obsession with wet wipes.
1. Chemicals That Strip Your Booty
Wet wipes have been proven to cause rashes on the rear-end due to the chemicals soaking these wipes. A Mayo Clinic report cited the experience of one man, a postman, who “had a rash around his anus so painful that he couldn’t walk for months… It wasn’t until he stopped using Kimberly-Clark’s Cottonelle moist wipes, some of which contain MCI [methylchloroisothiazolinone, a chemical of concern], that the problem cleared up.”
Baby wipes contain preservatives and fragrances that should not come into contact with human skin, particularly that of infants and small children. Furthermore, wet wipes vary in effectiveness. Most wet wipes do not clean but rather spreads bacteria around your anus. Sounds like good old water would be a much better alternative.
2. The Environmental Dangers
Wet Wipes are billed as “disposable” and “flushable” but they aren’t. There certainly are no biodegradable element to them. Most wet wipes contain plastic fibers that aren’t able to be broken down Instead they end up in the ocean and get ingested by sea creatures, such as turtles, who mistake them for jellyfish and eventually die. Not unlike plastic bags.
“When marine wildlife eats that plastic, which they quite often do, it just stays in the stomach of the animal and quite often they just die of starvation,” says Charlotte Coombs of the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).
3. Clogging Toilets
Many flush wipes down the toilet, because where else do you put a shitty cloth, causing the toilet to clog and subsequently overflow. The Guardian reports that New York City has spent $18 million on “wipe-related equipment problems” in the past five years.
When wipes clog city sewers, overflow occurs, or, at the very least, a serious blockage made from accumulating fat. Barf.
Luckily, wet wipes aren’t your only option. There’s TUSHY bidet. TUSHY bidet is the perfect alternative to wet wipes. It is a bidet that easily attaches to your toilet in under 10 minutes. You may be wondering what is a bidet is used for. Unlike wet wipes, TUSHY bidet washes away all the poop from your bottom, leaving behind 0 trace of bacteria to spread. Also, it is safer for the environment and easier on your plumbing. Couple that with one of TUSHY's premium bamboo towels and your bum (and the environment) will be thankful.
