We’re obviously big fans of bamboo over at TUSHY. This miraculous grass (that’s right, it’s technically a grass!) is leading the sustainability wave with its wide variety of uses.
We use it to make our bamboo toilet paper and towels, but did you know it has found its way into tons of other products? Now you can buy bamboo underwear, bamboo tableware, and our latest bamboo fav: bedding.
Let’s dial it back for a second and talk about why bamboo is such a nifty plant. At this point we have all heard about how cotton is not only a pesticide-ridden crop, but even organic cotton is resource draining and hard on the environment. Bamboo, on the other hand, is a highly renewable resource and the fastest regenerating plant in the world, growing as quickly as 47.6 inches in a 24-hour period. Unlike cotton, bamboo doesn’t need to be replanted and has a 10x yield per acre in comparison. Plus for sustainability bonus points, bamboo doesn’t require pesticides, fertilizers or irrigation to grow.
Enough about the nitty gritty though, and back to our new favorite bamboo product. We’ve recently become pretty obsessed with Ettitude, a 100% organic bamboo bedding and lifestyle brand. Goop recently named Ettitude one of the “Six Brands Leading the Cruelty-Free Charge” and said, “one goop editor and her boyfriend haven’t needed melatonin since their first sleep on Ettitude sheets.”
Their ultra-sustainable bamboo lyocell fabric feels as soft as clouds and thermoregulates your body temperature while you sleep, which means if you’re a hot sleeper, it keeps you cool, but if you run cold, it keeps you warm. It’s also anti-microbial so you can continue to save the environment by washing your sheets less. Their silky smooth texture looks pretty darn good in the bedroom. Add in hypoallergenic properties and you’ve got one really good reason to never get out of bed again.
