A Note From TUSHY Founder, Miki Agrawal:

As I started thinking about Women’s Equality Day and its significance, I couldn’t help but think about my son Hiro who was just born 7 weeks ago. Every baby boy, like mine, was carried, birthed, and nursed by women and yet, how is it that some of these baby boys grow up to become men who oppress women?

This behavior is not an innate to all or even some men, it’s a learned behavior.

It means that this “learned behavior” can be transformed into a positive, loving, respectful, EQUAL existence for all and I am committed to doing my part to make this happen with my own son. My son will grow up with powerful female role models all around him and if all of our sons can be raised to think that everyone is equal, it will only take one generation to make this massive transformation.

The simple fact is that women (and all oppressed groups) should have the right to live dignified, loving, and equal lives.

In the digital age, we have the power to spread this message far and wide efficiently and effectively so let’s all keep pushing this conversation forward - mostly through loving, educational words and not through anger and hurtful words, because we know that tactic only creates more division.

Here at Tushy we are working every day to spread that message here and abroad. We are so proud of our giveback partner Samagra.co, an organization that brings clean toilets to the urban poor in India. Over a billion people practice open defecation (pooping outside in the streets) and in India, over 65% of the entire country do not have toilets. As Samagra explains,  girls and women are especially affected because “a man can unzip anywhere without fear and shame and it is the women who lack access to private toilets. Millions of women have to wake up before sunrise or wait for the sky to get dark and walk miles to find a safe place to relieve themselves.” Women could be raped, harassed and are vulnerable when they are crouching down. Many women get urinary tract infections because they hold in their pee all day long and wait till night time to go which is really unhealthy. This is not a once in a while thing, this is an everyday thing for their entire lives for millions and millions of women all around the world.
