We all know lil bamboo plants are cute on your windowsill next to a succulent and vintage coffee mug, but that good wood plant can actually be useful for basically everything.
Here are some ways you can use bamboo:
- Poles for scaffolding and fencing.
- Woven products like baskets, mats, screens, curtains, etc.
- Panels and boards for construction.
- To make furniture and kitchenware.
- For food (bamboo shoots in curry is soooo good)
- Charcoal
- Vinegar
- Medicine
- Beer (bambrewery, anyone?)
- Chopsticks
- Incense
- AND TEXTILES, like clothes and towels.
Bamboo itself is “a giant woody grass which is grown chiefly in the tropics,” according to Oxford Dictionaries. To think the little-grass-that-could can turn into all of these different things is kind of mind-and-behind-boggling. Just imagine bamboo wearing a superhero costume reading, “BAM!Boo.” So, we decided to make our bowel towels out of bamboo.
Bamboo can grow up to 39 inches in just one day, meaning it’s super sustainable. We’re not being greedy buttheads and cutting down centuries old rainforests. Additionally, bamboo actually absorbs 35% more CO2 per hectare than equivalent plants. We recognize bamboo products like our Tushy Towels doo in fact require transportation and some processing that does generate pollution, but these negative impacts are also felt with other, less-sustainably sourced products. It’s all about being a smart pooper and consumer!
We also particularly like bamboo for textiles like our butt patters because it is super soft. Like, as soft as a panda’s forehead. I’m actually currently wearing bamboo socks and it feels like walking on a sustainably-sourced cloud. Comfy for the environment and your feet… or butt. Bamboo textiles are also naturally antibacterial, antifungal and anti-odor, so you’re really treating your bambooty to some elite pooping.
Next time you see a product made out of bamboo at the store, think of all of all of these things But(t) mainly about how a lot of products, including our butt towels, use bamboo that panda’s don’t eat. We don’t wanna be stealing a panda family’s dinner, ya know?
